I chose Education as my topic to discuss. (These are all opinions, some may disagree.) Education is consistently being scrutinized and is a highly controversial issue. It is constantly being reformed. We need funding for this, we're taking sports and art away, we're taking all religious aspects out, we need metal detectors in every entrance. Parents are continually forcing their ideals where they don't belong. While other parents aren't involved enough. What's best for one child isn't necessarily best for another. I feel that we are straying to far from "old school" fundamentals. Maybe there wouldn't be such issues with violence, lawsuits and drugs if a moral standpoint and discipline were more prominent. Discipline these days is what, suspending a student? Once they get back will all their problems magically be gone. Probably not they've been out of school for a week or maybe even a month (if not expelled) doing who knows what. Probably not studying. Teachers and Principles need to address these problems. If more effort was put towards really trying to relate to each and every student and make them feel significant and understood, I think they would be less likely to lash out. Maybe they misbehave because they aren't fortunate enough to have loving parents at home. Perhaps they need compassion and guidance. It seems you'll get the best response from the kind, patient understanding teachers rather than those quick to yell. Every child is unique and may not fall right in line with what the edu. system expects. Some are more artistic, some dramatic, while some are quiet and like US History. Let them have a voice, and listen to it. Maybe then problems with guns and behavioral issues wouldn't be as great of a concern.
